Since Monday the European Rental Week 2026 has been running: the fifth edition, 12 to 18 October, organised by the European Rental Association. It ends on Sunday.

This year's campaign centres on three themes: sustainability, people and skills, and the business value of rental. One of its elements is called “Rental made it possible” and asks rental companies to show concrete examples — where rental made a project happen.

That is the interesting part. And the part where most contributions stay thin.

A poster takes twenty minutes to hand out

Logo, visual, one line about sustainability — ERA supplies the material. The evidence is generated somewhere else: on site, between issue and hand-back.

When a battery unit comes back, the customer usually has exactly one question: did it hold up? Not which brand, not how many kilowatt hours — but whether the tool ran until the end of the shift.

The answer is not in the datasheet. It is in whatever was written down at issue and at hand-back.

Five lines that make the difference

  • Which tool was connected — the type, not just “a machine”?
  • How long did it run, continuously or with interruptions?
  • Under what conditions: rain, dust, cold, direct sun?
  • State of charge at hand-back — an estimate is enough, as long as everyone uses the same one.
  • Time to full charge, and at which source: Schuko, CEE or generator?

Anyone who writes those five lines for every issue has, after a few weeks, not anecdotes but a series. And can compare it with the next one a year later.

Why this fits the week's theme

ERA frames the value of rental this year through three things: access to the right machine at the right time, flexibility on cost and availability, and reduced risk for the customer. That is exactly the advantage over buying — but it only becomes visible if it can be evidenced.

A rental business that can show a unit powered a tool for a full shift, in rain, with one charge in between, is no longer selling equipment. It is selling a commitment.

The second part: the people

This year the campaign also puts the people in rental at the centre — depot, drivers, technicians, sales, training. For a rental business that is not a marketing topic but a staffing one. Whoever keeps those five lines reliably is usually also the person who checks the unit at hand-back, before the next issue goes out.

And on Monday?

The week ends on 18 October. What remains is the question of what you can show. A poster comes down quickly. A series of hand-back notes stays.
